First, I sketch out the painting. Masking out areas allows me to work without worrying about reserving areas. | |
I dash aureolin around the painting, leaving plenty of white space.
I paint the sky very subtlely, barely defining clouds.
I let this dry completely. | |
I darken the sky slightly. I darken the trees and some of the foreground vines. | |
I paint the vines in the distance. I continue adding to the foreground vines, letting my brush dance around the paper. I let this dry completely. |

After it's dry, I remove the masking. I add some bright yellows and quinacridone reds to contrast with the bright greens. I darken the shadows under the vines. | |
I add finishing details, darkening the background to increase the sense of distance.
