Sonoma Vineyard Watercolor Painting Tutorial First, I sketch out the painting. Masking out areas allows me to work without worrying about reserving areas.
Sonoma Vineyard Watercolor Painting Lesson 2 I dash aureolin around the painting, leaving plenty of white space. I paint the sky very subtlely, barely defining clouds. I let this dry completely.
Sonoma Vineyard Painting Tutorial 3 I darken the sky slightly. I darken the trees and some of the foreground vines.
Sonoma Vineyard Painting Tutorial 4 I paint the vines in the distance.

I continue adding to the foreground vines, letting my brush dance around the paper. I let this dry completely.

Sonoma Vineyard Painting Tutorial 5

After it's dry, I remove the masking.

I add some bright yellows and quinacridone reds to contrast with the bright greens. I darken the shadows under the vines.

Sonoma Vineyard Watercolor Painting Tutorial 6 I add finishing details, darkening the background to increase the sense of distance.
