Manset Harbor Sketching

2011-09-27

Manset is next to Southwest Harbor, near the harbor mouth. There is a town dock with everything from lobster boats to wooden sailboats. And Manset is currently home to the fabulous Hinckley boat builders.Every day, there’s something new and exciting, from old tall wood ships to sailboats I swear I’ve seen at an America’s Cup race. Not to mention Picnic Boats! There’s a tiny rock beach next to the town dock that is a perfect place to paint from. I’ve even done a class demonstration from it since there are several different things to paint. The boats, the docks, the sea and the sky. This sketch was on a particularly gorgeous sea and sky day. I focused on the mouth of Somes Sound. I love seeing cloud shadows on the distant mountains. Pink granite in the sun. White sails skittering by. And a bobbing hodge podge of boats. Very quick sketch, then off to Thuya Gardens!
