This watercolor painting of a loggerhead sea turtle swimming I've held on to for awhile. I just really love sea turtle paintings!
Sea turtles move so slowly, almost drifting through the sea. Time seems endless to a sea turtle, almost ageless. The light shimmers on them in blue water so beautifully.
Some of my latest paintings are from rehabilitating sea turtles at aquariums. Unfortunately, I just don't see them in the wild too much. I am in awe from the very few times I have.
I paint my sea turtles in many layers, sometimes as many as 50 – not that I'm counting while I'm engrossed in a painting! It takes that many layers to capture the shimmery ocean depths.
There's something special about a creature that has changed so little in thousands of years, besides their calm beauty. Sea turtles will always symbolize the majestic depths of the ocean to me.
This original watercolor painting is on Twinrocker handmade watercolor paper. Gorgeous rough deckle edges allow you to frame it floating on a mat or encased in one. Paintings will be shipped inside mats for stability. However, I highly recommend floating the deckle edged paper for full visual impact.
