Sketching Palmetto Palms

Palmetto palms cover so much of Georgia's coast. Every change in light provides a new subject. Deep shadows with lines of light drawn on them, the rattling of the dry brown fronds catching the slightest breeze, the basketweave pattern on the trunk.
Every painting I paint of palmettos evokes hot lazy summer days at the beach. During the middle of the day, I usually take a few minutes to walk and sketch the salt marshes, lined with palmettos.
